After Bob returned from the war, they lived in Missouri, Michigan, Nova Scotia, Jamaica, and finally Virginia, where they resided for over 40 years. Wherever they lived, Janice was active in her local church, community activities, and supported her children’s activities. When the family moved to VA, she was able to return to college and earned her BEd from Emory & Henry College in 1964 and her Master of Education in 1971 from UVA. She taught and was a guidance counselor for 20 years at R B Worthy High School in Saltville, VA, nurturing many students. She was a long time active member of Madam Russell UMC and Abingdon UMC, and a member and former Regent of Blacks Fort Chapter of the DAR. At the time of her death she was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Bob and Janice loved traveling and visited all 50 States, all the provinces of Canada as well as many foreign countries. Janice also made multiple UMC mission trips with ladies from the Holston conference. During Bob and Janice’s travels, they met and visited with many friends, gathered historical and genealogical information, explored cultures, and took many photographs to share with family and friends. Janice made many presentations incorporating slides, music, and learnings from their travels.

In place of flowers, the family asks that you honor Janice’s memory with a memorial donation to the Choir of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, to Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA, or to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
